Scholastic: Helping Children Around the World to Read and Learn

I was contacted by two authors from Scholastic, the folks that publish books and offer book clubs to elementary age school children. They publish a series, 24/7 Science Behind the Scenes: Medical Files, featuring true-life cases and the scientists or physicians who solve them. Help! What's Eating My Flesh? was written by Thomasine E. Lewis Tilden and she shines the spotlight on one of my heroes from UC Davis Medical Center, Dr. Susan Murin. She was the ER doc who admitted me and, along with Dr. Jeff Jones, diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis.

The author took a lot of liberty with the story of how I contracted the disease and my abilities in soccer. She also made me a lot older than I was at the time! But, the story is substantially accurate, Dr. Murin's account is spot-on and the scientific/medical information is accurate. Check it out. You won't be dissappointed.
